Hyundai Posts 5.8 Pct Growth in November Global Sales |
|
(Seoul, Korea) Propelled by strong overseas sales and an upturn in the domestic market, global sales for Hyundai Motor Co. rose 5.8 percent in November over the previous month. And for the second consecutive month, monthly sales topped the 200,000 mark, reaching 223,698 units.
Overseas deliveries, which combine export shipments from Korean factories and sales by transplants in China, Turkey and India, rose by 6.4 percent month-over-month to 175,194 units. On a year-to-date basis, overseas sales are up 30 percent y-o-y reaching 1,553,913 units as of November-end.
The domestic picture was more mixed. While sales of passenger cars, vans and SUVs rose 13 percent m-o-m to 37,214 units lifted by especially strong sales of Santa Fe, sales of commercial vehicles slumped 18.2 percent to 11,290 units. Total domestic sales were up 3.8 percent in the month reaching 48,504 units providing an encouraging sign that the economy could be headed for a turnaround following a protracted slump.
For the third straight month in a row, the new Sonata was not only the company's top seller but also the best-selling vehicle in the country.
Established in 1967, Hyundai Motor Co. has grown into the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group which includes over two dozen auto-related subsidiaries and affiliates. Employing over 50,000 people worldwide, Hyundai Motor posted US$20.8 billion in sales in 2003 (on a non-consolidated basis). Hyundai motor vehicles are sold in 193 countries through some 5000 dealerships and showrooms.
