February 3 HYUNDAI'S JANUARY SALES SURGE
- Exports up 54.9 pct
- Domestic sales up 4.7 pct

( Seoul, Korea ) - Hyundai Motor Co.'s new year got off to a solid start as global sales for the first month of the year reached an all-time monthly high of 196,359 units, up 41.3 percent over the same month last year.
Domestic sales improved by 4.7 pct y-o-y to 39,228 led by strong sedan sales, most notably the all-new Sonata which continued its rule as Korea's best selling car. A total of 7,185 Sonatas were delivered in January to Korean customers. Avante, badged overseas as Elantra, was the second best selling sedan with 6,525 units delivered.

Overseas sales, including exports from Hyundai's Korean factories plus sales of Hyundai's overseas manufacturing subsidiaries in China, India and Turkey, rose 54.9 percent y-o-y to reach 157,131 units-a monthly record.
