Jan. 26, 2006 Hyundai´s 2005 Net Profits Up 32.6 Pct On Unit Sales Rise 1.4 Pct
( Seoul, Korea ) Hyundai Motor Co. saw a 1.4 percent increase y-o-y in 2005 unit sales to 1,701,000 units while sales revenues, affected by the strengthening Korean won, declined a fraction of a point in 2005 to 27.384 trillion won. Drags on performance included increased costs for labor and materials.
Hyundai´s operating profit fell by 30.1 percent to 1.384 trillion won while on a net basis, the profit rose 32.6 percent to 2.315 trillion won. The Korean market accounted for 570,000 units (3.4 percent y-o-y growth) and overseas shipments 1,131,000 (0.4 percent y-o-y). Growth was particularly strong in Western Europe (387,000 units, up 7.0 percent y-o-y), Eastern Europe (64,000 units, up 6.6 percent y-o-y), the Middle East (153,000 units or 44.3 percent y-o-y) and all other markets (235,000 units or 22.5 percent y-o-y rise).
Hyundai¡¯s assets grew by 2.14 trillion won in 2005 to 26.561 trillion won while the company saw a 120 billion won improvement in its cash and cash equivalents position to 6.006 trillion won. Liabilities increased by just 272 billion won to 11.608 trillion won.
2006 Forecast
Hyundai´s Korean operations are targeting a 3.9 percent increase in unit sales in 2006 to 1,767,000 units. On a global basis, the company is aiming for a 15.1 percent growth in unit sales to 2,689,000 units (including 922,000 units manufactured by the company´s overseas subsidiaries in China, India, Turkey and the United States).
In revenue terms, Hyundai Motor Co. is aiming at a 9.7 percent rise in sales revenues to 30 trillion won (excluding overseas plants). Overseas plants will see a 51.6 percent increase in revenues in 2006 to 11.4 trillion won, bringing the company´s global sales revenue target for 2006 to 41.4 trillion won (an 18.8 increase over 2005).
