May 2, 2006 Hyundai´s Worldwide April Sales Slip 12.8 Pct m-o-m

• April sales slip 12.8 pct to 215,037 units
• Export sales growth is slowing due to high won
• Jan-Apr overseas sales of 685,234 units up 10.2 pct y-o-y

(Seoul, Korea) Hyundai Motor Co.´s worldwide sales posted a decline of 12.8 percent over the previous month to 215,037 units. Jan-Apr cumulative results reached 871,248 units, up 10.9 percent y-o-y.
April domestic fell to 44,044 units, equivalent to a 14.4 percent monthly decline while overseas sales which includes shipments from Hyundai´s Korean factories and units sold by Hyundai´s manufacturing subsidiaries in the United States, China, India and Turkey also declined to 170,993 units, down 12.4 percent over the previous month.
Domestic Sedans, SUVs and Minivans
Sedan sales in the Korean market slowed by 6.1 percent m-o-m to 26,929 units ash Sonata retained its crown as the nation´s number one selling car with sales of 10,572 units. Sales of SUVs and minivans posted a 25.3 percent decline to 6,090 units as each model posted negative results, including the all-new Santa Fe.
Domestic Commercial Vehicles
The picture was not any brighter in domestic commercial vehicle sales where sales fell 24.6 percent to 11,025 units.
Export Sales
The impact of the fast appreciating Korean won was felt on export shipments from Hyundai's three Korean factories which saw sales plummet by 16.3 pct m-o-m to 97,075 units. Their Jan-Apr cumulative total was also down by 7.8 percent y-o-y to 408,975 units. Ovearseas manufacturing units in the United States, India, China and Turkey reported sales of 73,918 units in April, down 6.8 percent m-o-m. Their Jan-Apr cumulative total reached 685,234 units, up 10.2 percent y-o-y.
